March 7th – An evening of thanks to volunteers was organised by Adam Lowe, the Oakham Mayor, and his wife Julie. It was great to celebrate so many who help make Rutland the great place it is. And a special thanks to Adam Lowe for all he has done for our community!
Women’s health talk
Women’s health needs more research & publicity. I was pleased to attend a Wellbeing of Women talk by the brilliant speaker Jessica Hepburn organised by Julie Spence, the Lord-Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire. Everyone came away with a greater understanding of infertility and its effects on men & women.
Rutland Young People’s Awards
March 7th – I attended the Rutland Young People’s Awards at Rutland Museum. What talent, altruism, resilience & community engagement. Thanks are due to Rutland Council for small grants helping youngsters to travel – Australia, Nepal, Sumatra, Costa Rica & Norway.
Scouting centenary
March 4th – Celebrating 100 years of scouting in Oakham with such a great group of scouts. This year they have swum, camped, travelled, rock climbed and much more. What’s more, Leader Leanne & others have persuaded companies & individuals to reroof & refurbish the scout hut!
Rutland Service in Peterborough Cathedral
Feb 24th – There was a great Rutland turnout at the moving Rutland Service in Peterborough Cathedral. Thanks to Sue Jarrom, our wonderful High Sheriff, who organised it with help from the Dean and many others.
Fijian heroes
Feb 21st – A great honour to meet the Fijian Takabesi last night when I heard of his & his comrade Talaiasi Labalaba’s heroism at Mirbat. Fijian bravery & links with the British Army continue. I was delighted to drink yaqona with Fijians from Kendrew barracks.
Sorting clothes For Rutland
Great to visit all hardworking volunteers clothes sorting for the For Rutland charity this morning with Sue Jarrom, our High Sherriff. It is so encouraging to see how much people do for others for free! Come to sales! Men’s this Friday 5pm @ Pilings Road; main sale at Barnsdale Lodge Hotel 1st and 2nd March, times below.
Rutland Recognised?
After the recent identification of Rutland as the third best place in the UK to live (what, only the third???) I was pleased to see the delights of Rutland getting national recognition in the Sunday Telegraph!
