RAFA Rides support

June 13: RAF Association rides. A great cause & great cycling today as part of this national fundraising event. See https://www.justgiving.com/charity/rafa

I was joined by Air Cadet Amy & RAF veteran Andreas. We had a great ride & saluted Rutland’s illustrious past as home to Cottesmore & North Luffenham air bases.

300 cyclists took part in the Rutland part of this event. We all enjoyed beautiful scenery & raised funds for this good cause. I was told that although many Lord-Lieutenants support the local versions of this national event, I was the only one in the country who actually mounted a bike and joined in the sponsored riding!

Rutland Armed Forces Veterans’ Breakfast

May 13th. A very jolly morning. At today’s Rutland Armed Forces Veterans’ Breakfast Club I was delighted to present a cheque to Royal British Legion Rutland branch. I was surprised to be given a certificate and beautiful poppy badge myself. Thanks to John and all for the support given to our considerable veteran community.

April 21: Remembering a life of dedication and service with huge respect, Rutlanders gathered today to mark what would have been Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday. Our memorial statue has become a community & visitor focus.

Our celebration of the centenary of our Late Queen Elizabeth’s birth started with cup cakes, crowns, flags and juice; part of the traditional elevenses I hosted at the Family Hub in Rutland’s county town of Oakham. Thanks to staff from Rutland Council & to my Deputies for all their help.
