December 4th: Three weeks until Christmas! Thanks to Oakham Town for a festive fair at Cutts Close today. Street food, stalls, The Grainy, spinning tea cups and more. A great Santa Fun Run was organised by Rutland Rotary.
December 3rd. An extraordinary array of 100 nativity cribs from around the world was displayed at St Andrews Church, Hambleton, Rutland this weekend. It was impossible to photograph everything as the whole church was filled!
The collection was kindly lent by BBC personality Libby Purves and assembled for display by local volunteers.
Christmas is coming!
November 28th: the formal Installation of Uppingham fire service’s chaplain, Jill Canningby, by Bishop John – a joyful chance to celebrate the work of our wonderful volunteer firefighters. We are so lucky to have such altruism in Rutland.
November 19th. We gave thanks with Bishop Donald in St. John’s Church Ryhall for the roof renewal project, recently completed. A £185k community project; impressive to do this in 2.5 yrs on a Grade I listed building. Well done to everyone.
What a great scheme; to give those who would never have a selection of wantable and useful presents just that, for Christmas. The Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal. Please give a filled decorated shoe box to Oakham Baptist church.
November 14th: We celebrated King Charles’s birthday with a delicious tea at Tixover Grange & planted a beautiful medlar tree. Thanks to all for delightful afternoon.
12th November: A great evening at All Saints’ Church, Oakham in aid of The Royal British Legion with Rutland Concert Band.
The first Rutland Remembrance concert was held on 11th November at Uppingham School. All of Rutland’s secondary schools contributed splendid performances. We also had memorable performances from the Cadet corps of drums and the Cottesmore Military Wives choir.
So many of those present said it was a great event and called for it to happen every year; we will try! Attendance exceeded 500 people and over £6,000 was raised for The Royal British Legion . With thanks to the sponsors of the venue and the refreshments, all costs were covered so all ticket proceeds went to the charity.
A well supported Armistice Day service at Oakham Castle. We will remember them. No further words are needed.
