Sept 28th: Great cakes, bargains, fun & community spirit ⁦at the Macmillan Cancer⁩ coffee morning in Stretton today! Thanks to all for such an enjoyable time. A great charity – 1 in 2 of us will get cancer ⁦and Macmillan Cancer⁩ offers practical advice, nursing & emotional support.

Signposting Stretton

Sept 28th: The vibrant village community of Stretton has a new & beautiful sign. It was hand made as a gift to the village. A pleasure to unveil it.

Rutland’s Cadets

Sept 19th: Celebrating ⁦our cadets at the Rutland Show⁩ ground and awarding Certificates for Meritorious Service. The Combined Cadet Force & volunteer officers enable cadets to gain experience & qualifications & improve life chances for life. Thanks to the Station Commander RAF Wittering for an inspiring talk.

Oakham in Bloom

Sept 12th: Hard work goes into making Oakham beautiful with flowers & planters. Oakham in Bloom held its AGM yesterday. Nick Hamilton gave a fascinating talk ⁦about Barnsdale Garden.

⁩Volunteers are needed to help plant bulbs, water and weed – gardening is therapeutic so do consider joining.

Remembering the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

September 8th. Two years ago today Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth died & His Majesty King Charles acceded to the throne. Rutland held a small ceremony and I laid flowers at our statue to remember Queen Elizabeth’s life of service. This was followed by a service at All Saints’ Church, Oakham.⁦

Merchant Navy Day 2024

September 3rd. Raising the Red Ensign at Oakham Castle on Merchant Navy Day. ⁦

Rutland pays tribute to the past and present service given by our Merchant Navy, so called because of their contribution to our island’s defence. Without them we would have lost both world wars; merchant seamen proportionately lost more men than the armed forces.

Celebrating the Royal Anglian Regiment founding

September 1st was the 60th #anniversary of the founding of ⁦the Royal Anglians. I was invited to an amazing Drumhead service & parade ⁦ at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. We should be⁩ so proud of “the Vikings” and “the Poachers”, a.k.a. 1 & 2 Royal Anglian Brigade, who are based at Kendrew barracks in Rutland.

A march past ⁦(click to see a video) was part of ⁦the Royal Anglian’s regimental day, in the presence of HRH the Duke of Gloucester; together with military bikers, cadets and many veterans plus their families, many from Rutland. The Regimental family feeling was tangible. ⁦
