Rutland has a new High Sheriff

April 3rd Today at Oakham Castle saw the declaration of Rutland’s new High Sheriff, Col. Richard Chesterfield. Thanks to Richard Cole DL for his excellent year of service.

Ketton’s new play park

April 3rd. The official opening of Ketton’s refurbished play park at Hall Close took place today and I was delighted to cut the ribbon. £60,000 has been spent, using Community Infrastructure Levy funds received by the Parish Council.

Preserving Rutland’s Churches

April 7th. It was great to join the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust, at a meeting at All Saints Oakham. Over the years they have donated over £1M to local churches.

The Chief Constable’s Awards

March 22nd. Congratulations to all the police who won awards at the Chief Constable’s awards night, but especially to Rutland PC Edward McKinnon. Thanks to all for their bravery & public service.

Rotary Tecnhology Challenge

March 18th. 18 teams took part ⁦in the annual Uppingham Rotary Technology challenge ⁦ at Uppingham School⁩ today. They were given a variety of problems to solve, matched to the various age groups participating. Great fun was had and great ingenuity was demonstrated. These are our future engineers in the making. ⁦

The re- illumination of All Saints is complete!

March 16th: Now beautifully illuminated, All Saints Oakham church welcomed back its former curate & now the Bishop of Lichfield for a celebratory service after completing the installation of effective subtle lighting. Thanks to all who supported the lighting project particularly Michael Latham, the master mind.

International Women’s Day

March 10th. A great start to the week! ⁦ For International Women’s Day we had three inspirational role models : our Bishop Debbie Sellin, Nadia Tikhonova (who talked about challenges facing Ukrainian women) and Tracy Moores on her career and business. The event underlined the importance of self belief. ⁦

Young Musicians in Oakham

March 8th. Oakham School chapel ⁦was the venue for a hugely professional concert by local musicians of the Rutland Sinfonia. The event also showcased two outstanding young musicians who were given the experience & opportunity to perform with a full orchestra.

An opening at the University of Leicester

March 7th: For the first time a Leicester University building has been named after a woman! The schools of archaeology ancient history & museum studies has been named after the leading archaeologist Dame Kathleen Kenyon – a great way to mark international women’s day.
