Oakham Veterans’ Breakfasts restart!
March 5th: Great company & breakfast at The Grainy with Oakham Armed Forces Veterans’ Breakfast Club – a gathering of military veterans and their families of all ages, on the first Saturday morning of each month. Thanks as well to Rutland Council Armed Forces officer Michelle Wilma Lane who is moving on. She has been inspirational.
LOROS in Uppingham
March 2nd: I was delighted to open LOROS Hospice‘s new community space in Uppingham. LOROS does so much for Rutland residents.

February 26th: Thanks to Adam Lowe for bringing to life Lt Richard Farrer’s service and death in WW1 in the 5th Leicestershire; including some physical momentoes of his life (such as his Army ruler and prismatic compass). This was a fascinating free talk in Uppingham. More talks to come.
Oakham Daffodil Trail
February 26th: Spring has sprung! I was glad to launch Oakham in bloom’s daffodil trail from Rutland ‘s Duke of Edinburgh Memorial orchard at the Rutland Showground. Thanks to all volunteers who make Oakham beautiful with plantings.
Bereavement support
February 13th: Today a really useful & humane book was published, providing practical guidance for dealing with death, grief & bereavement. It was launched by the LOROS Hospice and it will soon be available through “Dying Matters“ and the various hospice shops, including LOROS, Dove Cottage Hospice and Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall. Congratulations.
Service for Katherine of Aragon at Peterborough
February 12th: A beautiful pomegranate wreath, Rutland’s tribute to Katherine of Aragon presented during the annual service in her memory held at Peterborough Cathedral.
RIP Gerry Wells
So sad to hear of the death of Gerry Wells, Tank Commander, author and holder of the French Legion d’Honneur for his part in WW2. Rutland was proud to have him in our midst.
