Vacancies for volunteers?
Rutland’s High Sheriff and I were celebrating Volunteers Week at Rutland Citizens Advice Bureau yesterday. Rutland has a wealth of voluntary organisations. There are more than 69 vacancies for volunteers. Being a volunteer helps others & makes for happier lives.
Marathons for charity
June 1st: Nicki Dutton is walking 5 half marathons over the Platinum Jubilee weekend to raise funds for Wags and Bones, a charity that helps both dogs & humans. Nicki started in Rutland but will also walk around London ending in Rutland on Sunday.
Rutland’s Floral Tribute
May 30th: Celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, Rutland now has a stunning floral horseshoe. It has been made featuring the flowers embroidered on Her Majesty’s coronation robe. All made by skilled florist Jo, it can be viewed at Oakham Castle. The horseshoe surrounds our Rutland poem written by Uppingham resident Henry Dawe.
Rogation Sunday at Brooke
May 29th: Rogation Sunday was marked with well chosen hymns & beautiful prayers and music, reflecting thankfulness for the earth’s bounty. This was at Brooke church in Rutland – the best preserved #Elizabethan church in the country. So beautiful. Thanks to all.
Another tree for the QGC!
May 28th: At Whissendine we marked the Queen’s Jubilee with a flowering tree, as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy. It was an honour to unveil the plaque. Thank you.
Local School Jubilee Celebrations
May 25th: A privilege to share Exton & Greetham Primary School’s Platinum Jubilee celebration & picnic. Lovely singing! Thanks to all.
And I found that the Platinum Jubilee has been embraced with relish by pupils at Whissendine primary school!
Welcoming new magistrates
May 25th: The Crown Court witnessed the swearing in of magistrates to the Leicestershire & Rutland bench. It was good to meet up with Leicestershire’s High Sheriff pictured here with Rutland’s High Sheriff.
