March 4th – Celebrating 100 years of scouting in Oakham with such a great group of scouts. This year they have swum, camped, travelled, rock climbed and much more. What’s more, Leader Leanne & others have persuaded companies & individuals to reroof & refurbish the scout hut!
Rutland Service in Peterborough Cathedral
Feb 24th – There was a great Rutland turnout at the moving Rutland Service in Peterborough Cathedral. Thanks to Sue Jarrom, our wonderful High Sheriff, who organised it with help from the Dean and many others.
Fijian heroes
Feb 21st – A great honour to meet the Fijian Takabesi last night when I heard of his & his comrade Talaiasi Labalaba’s heroism at Mirbat. Fijian bravery & links with the British Army continue. I was delighted to drink yaqona with Fijians from Kendrew barracks.
Sorting clothes For Rutland
Great to visit all hardworking volunteers clothes sorting for the For Rutland charity this morning with Sue Jarrom, our High Sherriff. Rutland Recognised?
After the recent identification of Rutland as the third best place in the UK to live (what, only the third???) I was pleased to see the delights of Rutland getting national recognition in the Sunday Telegraph!
Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland CharityLink

Memorial for Katharine of Aragon
On 25th January I attended a beautiful memorial service for Katharine of Aragon, Henry VIIIth’s first wife, at Peterborough Cathedral where she is buried. This is a remarkably durable tradition, as is the maintenance of a fresh pomegranate (her symbol) on her grave. I was delighted to see the Spanish Embassy represented and historic links recognised.
Leicester Law Society
New Walk Museum was a great venue for the Leicester Law Society civic dinner. (Most of Rutland’s court hearings etc. are provided in Leicester). It was great to see many people who are key to our justice system there.
Open Your Eyes…
A visual treat was unveiled on 25th January at Rutland Museum in Oakham. Arts for Rutland showcased young talent with their new ‘Open your eyes, open to ideas’ exhibition. I met 11 year old artist Mara Bradbury Harrold, Mo Gardener, Joy Everitt , Oakham Mayor Adam Lowe, High Sheriff Sue Jarrom and many others
