Rutland library service is superb

I had a great day in Oakham library this week. It is a light, well carpeted, spacious series of spaces with books including e-books , large print and audio books – and lots more besides, most at no charge. There are  computers with free internet access, photocopying and printing facilities and DVD hire. The Children’s Centre has toys, Rhyme Time sessions, offers classes for new parents and chances for parents and children to get together. What a great use of space this new extension turns out to be. It is comfortable, modern and in frequent use. There were 8 very young babies and mothers meeting whilst I was there.

Much of the work of Rutland libraries is supported by volunteers. Indeed, if you reading this and are at a loose end then volunteering in Oakham, Uppingham, Ryhall or Ketton libraries can be a rewarding and valuable use of your time. Volunteers are always welcome!

Rutland also has a mobile library which visits the villages in county, books DVDs etc can be ordered for collection. This is such a help, especially for those who find transport difficult.
