The Queen’s Green Canopy

The development of The Queen’s Green Canopy has not ceased, despite Her Majesty’s death on September 2022.

The ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’ (QGC) is a nationwide initiative which will benefit future generations by encouraging people to “Plant a tree for the Jubilee”.  This will help create a green canopy to mark The Queen’s 70 years of service to our Nation.

Here in Rutland, we hope to plant 40,000 British grown trees, which is roughly one for every person living in Rutland.  To do this we need your help.

What we are doing in Rutland

We want to encourage everyone to get involved, individuals, schools, community groups, parish, town and county councils as well as landowners to all play their part in the celebrations by planting trees.

This is something you can be doing right now as the tree planting season begins in October and runs to the end of March. Any trees planted from October 2021 to the end of the Jubilee year in 2022 can be part of the QGC.

As well as inviting people to plant new trees, existing woodland can also be dedicated to the QGC by erecting commemorative plaques to mark the occasion and preserve forests for the future, in The Queen’s name.

This is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community, to reduce our impact on climate change and protect and enhance our county for generations to come.  There are lots of ways to get involved – click on this link to learn more.
