The Platinum Jubilee in Rutland

During the extended Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend, you and your community will have plenty of opportunities to get involved. We intend to compile a list of all the events we are informed of.

Community Decorations Week 23rd– 27th May

We hope that you and your community will decorate your village, street and home with bunting and flags to show the festive spirit of Rutland.

We’d love to see local businesses getting involved too, whether you work in retail, hospitality or even manufacturing, decorate your premises, shop windows and outside spaces to encompass the best of British spirit.

Beacon Lighting Thursday 2nd June

There is a long tradition in our country of celebrating royal festivities, such as jubilees, weddings and coronations, with the lighting of beacons. 

As part of the Platinum Jubilee weekend, there will be organised Beacon Lighting in Oakham and Uppingham.  If you and your community  would like to organise your own Beacon Lighting, Pageantmaster Bruno Peek has produced a useful step-by-step guide to help you safely put together your own event. Please note that you must register your involvement no later 1st June 2022 by following the guidance on page 10 of this booklet.

Festival – Friday 3rd June

We are hoping to hold organised music events in Oakham and Uppingham, featuring local bands and dance groups, as well as showcasing local arts and crafts. 

The Rutland County Show Saturday 4th June

The 2022 Rutland County Show will take place at the Rutland Show Ground on Saturday 4th June to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

As part of the extended weekend celebrations there will a whole host of exciting entertainment, attractions and displays along with all the traditional elements of the show such as livestock showing and equestrian competitions.

Live TV Broadcast of The Platinum Party at the Palace

The BBC will broadcast a special live concert from Buckingham Palace that will bring together some of the biggest entertainment stars.

If you are have access to large screens in public places, for example a pub, perhaps you could show TV coverage of the Jubilee.   Screenings could be accompanied by locally organised events or gatherings for people to enjoy the celebrations together to mark the occasion as well as give a boost to the local high street.

Services of Thanksgiving

Special services of Thanksgiving will be held throughout Rutland to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Details of these services will be released closer to the event.

The Big Jubilee Lunch Sunday 5th June

We hope that you will bring the Jubilee celebrations into the heart of your community by organising your own Big Jubilee Lunch. 

Will you be trying the promised new Platinum Pudding? Or perhaps even creating it?

In celebrating together, we hope to help encourage people to connect and get to know each other a little bit better by coming together in the spirit of fun and friendship.   Your lunch will be one of many with street parties being held throughout Rutland.
