22nd June -Casterton College Year 11 prize winners all set for happy futures. Casterton College is such an impressive school. Both students & staff go the extra mile. It was a privilege to address them and present their prizes. Exams over, students can now look forward to well-earned summer holidays!
A moving, beautiful & thought provoking installation Leicester cathedral opens today (June 19th). Hundreds of items of refugee clothing discarded on their arrival at Lesbos. Arabella Dorman fires our imaginations to comprehend their plight. Some are only baby size. This is a ‘must see’.
17th June 2018- De Montfort University Art & Design degree show. A great evening in the stunning setting provided by the new Vijay Patel building. 12th June – I attended a Cancer Research UK lunch & lecture at Greetham Valley Golf Club. There was a fascinating talk on the ‘liquid biopsy ‘ – research into using blood tests & genetic analysis to target cancer treatment. Congratulations to the High Sheriff, Sue Jarron for organising it. Picture is of Maggie Gover and myself.
400 people attended High Sheriff’s service celebrating voluntary work in county of Rutland – a great tribute to the immense amount of good in county. Pictured High Sheriff Sue Jarron, the Mayor of Oakham Adam Lowe & myself.
Oakham in Bloom takes masses of effort by lots of people, some are pictured with me. Great for Oakham to look floriferous in the summer – well done to all involved.
10th June – A perfect day for exploring Edith Weston’s beautiful gardens, Thanks to all who opened their gardens and organised the High Sheriff’s Garden walkabout.
There was a splendid fundraising concert on Saturday 9th June at St Andrew’s Church in Whissendine, given by Leicester Chorale, followed by dinner in a marquee in our garden next door. Proceeds of Leicester Chorale events go to fund music scholarships. St Andrew’s Whissendine was filled with glorious music. Over 100 people attended.

A very special day on Tuesday 5th June . At a Buckingham Palace Garden party hosted by HR The Prince of Wales & The Duchess of Cornwall. Pictured below with Kate Hiseman, CEO of the Sustainable Land Trust, from Rutland – a brilliant organisation helping youngsters and environment.
Was the best ever? We had great weather and there was such variety- living up to the county motto, ‘Multum in Parvo’! As is obvious below, I enjoyed myself on The Paras stand; the Army was well represented at the show.
I was happy to support For Rutland’s tombola. This annual event is a great effort on part of For Rutland’s hard working volunteers. The charity funds two specialist advisors at Citizens Advice. Since For Rutland started they have brought in £2.5 million of funding to help ill Rutlanders !
An example of the Rutland Show’s diversity of entertainment: Bee-keeping being taught to youngsters in the Leicestershire and Rutland Bee-keeper’s Association ‘bee tent’. It is so important that bees are understood and protected; much of our food depends upon them pollinating plants.
