March 7th – I attended the Rutland Young People’s Awards at Rutland Museum. What talent, altruism, resilience & community engagement. Thanks are due to Rutland Council for small grants helping youngsters to travel – Australia, Nepal, Sumatra, Costa Rica & Norway.
Scouting centenary
March 4th – Celebrating 100 years of scouting in Oakham with such a great group of scouts. This year they have swum, camped, travelled, rock climbed and much more. What’s more, Leader Leanne & others have persuaded companies & individuals to reroof & refurbish the scout hut!
Rutland Service in Peterborough Cathedral
Feb 24th – There was a great Rutland turnout at the moving Rutland Service in Peterborough Cathedral. Thanks to Sue Jarrom, our wonderful High Sheriff, who organised it with help from the Dean and many others.
Fijian heroes
Feb 21st – A great honour to meet the Fijian Takabesi last night when I heard of his & his comrade Talaiasi Labalaba’s heroism at Mirbat. Fijian bravery & links with the British Army continue. I was delighted to drink yaqona with Fijians from Kendrew barracks.
